Yadi Camara World Music Band was formed in Los Cabos in 2011 under the direction of Yadi Camara. The project brings traditional Guinean music into dialogue with a range of musical styles, with the balafon and songs in the Susu language at the heart of its identity.

Jazz, rock, reggae and rumba meet Yadi’s musical heritage in a project open to exchange. Its performances bring together elements of Mexican, Cuban, Guinean and African American musical traditions.

A story heard through the wood.

Yadi Camara was born in Guinea Conakry, West Africa, into a djeli musical family, also known as a griot family, connected to the preservation of oral tradition.

He began playing the balafon at the age of four under the guidance of his father, musician Alkhaly Camara. Based in Mexico since 2010, he has founded several ensembles and combines concert performances with workshops.

The soul that sings through wood.

Yadi Camara’s debut full-length album grew from a desire to preserve, share and celebrate the musical legacy of his homeland, Guinea. It places the balafon at the centre of an encounter between tradition and exploration.

The album draws on a decade of study and collaboration with musicians from different genres, bringing the instrument into new musical conversations.

Living tradition. Music without borders.

The balafon, voices and dialogue between instruments create a shared experience. A project that brings musical heritage together with an open approach to the stage.
